Who are the Sisters?

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.

A Nun on Your Side

Though Sisters always want you to indulge when it comes to life (heck, it's part of our name, you know), nevertheless you want you to do it (whatever it is) safely. Below are some of our on-going campaigns that aim to keep you safe and, remember, you always
have a nun on your side.

• Play Fair
Safer sex techniques intended to give you the basics and encourage you to get informed, have fun and lose the guilt.

• Stop The Violence
Stop The ViolenceA practical guide on how to stay safer in the streets, as well as resources if you are the victim of a crime.

• QP!
Sister maeJoy's tips on how to take care of yourself during Pride, or at any time for that matter.

• Bicycling Safety
Stop The ViolenceWe're lucky to live in a city that makes it fun and easy to get around on two wheels. The Sistes want to make sure San Francisco cyclers get around safely and smoothly, so we're offering you some nunly biking wisdom.

Give Till It Hurts

Use our secured method to leave us a tax-deductible donation so that we can further our vows to spread universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt by providing grants to nonprofits that promote wellness, identity, tolerance and diversity in our communities.

The night before Pride, the Sisters bring the party to the streets by closing them to traffic and then pumping multiple sound stages with music to create the largest nighttime street party in San Francisco. We will feature food trucks along Market Street where the Dyke March will once again finish its parade from Dolores Park. Party until late, go to bed, get some shut eye so you can do it all again Sunday at the Pride Parade downtown.

Sisters Bingo (Not Your Grandmother's Bingo) PDF Print E-mail

Tuesday, July 2, 7:30-10:30pm
Marriott Marquis, Yerba Buena Salon 7, 780 Mission
VIP: $45; General: $30
Purchase tickets

LGBT square dancers from all over North America are convening in our fair city by the bay and asked if we could do a bingo for them. Faster than you can say "do sa do" we said yes but since we haven't done one in awhile we had to look for our balls. Blessedly, they've been found and lovingly polished and we are now ready and raring to present, "Sisters Bingo (Not your grandmother's bingo)" filled with the antics that make this one of our more popular events. Even if you have no idea how to "swing your partner" or "allemande left," no worries. This bingo is open to everyone (21 and older) and proceeds will benefit the Sisters and the LGBT square dancing organization, All Join Hands. Ticket price includes one set of bingo cards and VIP tickets will get you a better table. No-host bar provided.

Up Your Alley PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, July 28, 11am - 6pm
Dore Alley, San Francisco
$7 to $10 suggested donation at the gates

The smaller, and some say the more local and intimate, of the two Folsom Street fairs, Up Your Alley's gates will once again be "manned" by Sisters to collect your donations. On your way in give us a squeeze, a pinch or a goose - but be sure to give it until hurts - before entering San Francisco's street party for the leather, kink and alternative adult lifestyle communities. Funds collected help support a multitude of San Francisco-based and national charities.
